Aires Del Virreinato

When searching for mexican composers and mexican music, basically one will find music dated from the second half of the XIX century and from the XX century, but what about earlier music? Music that occupied the viceroyalty period was in many factors forgotten and manuscripts were lied hidden in cathedrals, libraries or personal collections. Few musicologist have found the touch of this kind of music, a music different from the european baroque, a music with special mexican taste. One just must listenen to Sumaya or Jerusalem y Stella or Juan Gutierrez de Padilla, etc.

This disc presents music of composers whose music was performed in the New Spain, and many of they were spaniards.

Enjoy the "cantadas" and human tones, a music style that was in vogue in the first hal of XVII century in Spain and in the New World.

Le Temps Des Castrats

Continuing with the great ara of the castrati in the age of enlightenment I share this cd even though some arias dont sound very good because the recordings are old, but talking about countertenors one doesnt miss Alfre Deller or James Bowman.

Jaroussky - Carestini (The Story of a Castrato)

Many of the castrato arias with we have pleasure nowadays, were written in fact spatially for those super stars at that time. This cd contains one pasticcio of arias composed for Carestini (Farinelli's main rival) by the some of the most renown composers of that time. The era of the castrati have finished and no one really know how it was the voice of such singers even though exist  a recording dated from 1902 of Alessandro Moreschi the last castrato, but I cant rely on the quality of the registration because sounds like a rat crying, so, better enjoy the natural countertenors and thrust in their approach to a real castrato voice.

La Cantada Española en América - Al Ayre Español

Here I present a taste of Spaniard baroque played in the New World also. Once again Al Ayre Español makes an awesome work. All works are sacred and they are sung by the countertenor Carlos Mena whose alto voice fits to the perfection this kind of repertoire.

La senna Festeggiante - Vivaldi

Here some of profane music by Vivaldi. With this serenade continues the revival of Vivaldi's music, so long forgotten and unperformed. This is an excellent opportunity to enjoy once again Rinaldo Alessandrini's stile and the always fascinating Sonia's Prina voice.

Todos Los Bienes Del Mundo. Ensamble Galileo

Ensamble Galileo is one of the mexican ensambles wich specializes in viceroyal, renaissance and sephardic music. Its singer Rita Guerrero has a very soft voice, imprescindible for this kind of  repertoire. Enjoy what mexican baroque music has and the new sephrdic performance. Hear by yourself what religious people said when they went to the New Spain and they noticed what mexican baroque could make to the senses. They shivered and were perplexed cause they felt themselfs as they were in heaven cause they were listening singing the very angels!.

The Ultimate Baroque collection

Baroque lovers musnt miss this cd. This was one wich I started my love into this repertoire. The magnifique performances make of this cd one of the best, just listen who are the directors and the orchestras they lead. I solisti veneti-Claudio Scimone, Orchestre de chambre Jean-François Paillard-Jean François Paillard, The English Baroque Soloist-John Eliot Gardiner and The Amsterdam Baroque orchestra-Ton Koopman.

I know that most of the pieces contained in the cd are very popular and there are hundreds of interpretations, and for sure you'll bump into some later or soon, but listen diferent versions of a same ouvre will increase our understanding and our criteria when in a future in a baroque concert we attend.

Henry Purcell Sacred Music. C majeur

We start with a great jewel of a incredibly composer, Henry Purcell. From my point of view this cd is the most wonderfull ever made of music of this composer. The performance leaded by Timothy Brown is stuning, even higer than those of Alfred Deller.

Enjoy this, my favorite Purcell's discs!
