Nicola Porpora (17 August 1686 – 3 March 1768) composed
this cantata for Christmas eve the year 1732. His reputation made him being cataloged
as Handel rival (we must remember that Hasse also was given that title during
his trip in London, and also was asked to stay).
Porporas mastery is undoubted while spicing
with his stile to the baroque. Yes, Porpora’s music is unique in style and greatly
enriches the music of the first half of the XVIII century.
Enjoy :)
