The late symphonies Vol 1 - Sammartini

Giovanni Battista Sammartini is considered to be "The father of the symphony". He was the first that worked with the musical form of the symphony based on the concerto and sonata, instead from a form more alike as was the ouverture.

Sammartini also is a key figure to the development of the classical style along with many others like Michael and Joseph Haydn, Nardini, etc. Following chronologically his compositions and changes in style, can show us a depict of the transition from baroque to the classicism.

The symphonies presented here in this cd spans some works of his last 16 years of his life (1759-1775) "late symphonies". The style is somewhat similar to that of Mozart, Vanhal or even more, Boccherini. The instrumentation is more complex and versatile, "wind instruments (horns and oboes) are added, basses and cellos have independent parts and in some symphonies violas play divisi".

Enjoy the music of this composer unjustly forgotten for so long!  I really love this cd :)
